Tsavo is Kenya's largest and most dramatic wilderness. Together, Tsavo East and Tsavo West form a combined area of over 22,000 km² — larger than Wales — making it one of the world's biggest wildlife sanctuaries. Tsavo is defined by its iconic red elephants, whose thick coats of volcanic red dust give them an otherworldly appearance unlike elephants anywhere else in Africa. The landscape shifts dramatically across the two parks: Tsavo East is characterised by open savanna, red soils, and the Galana River; Tsavo West features volcanic hills, lava flows, dense vegetation, and the crystal-clear Mzima Springs — an underwater world fed by filtered rainfall from Kilimanjaro. The falls of Lugard's Falls and the commanding viewpoint of Mudanda Rock round out an adventure landscape that rewards those who explore beyond the Maasai Mara.
