The Maasai Mara National Reserve is Kenya's most famous wildlife destination and the northern extension of the greater Serengeti-Mara ecosystem. Covering 1,510 km² of open grassland, the Mara is world-renowned for its extraordinary year-round wildlife density — in particular its resident lion prides, cheetah families, and leopards — and for the dramatic annual wildebeest migration that crosses the Mara River from July to October in one of nature's most spectacular events. The reserve's surrounding private conservancies — Naboisho, Olare Motorogi, Ol Kinyei, and others — offer unparalleled safari experiences with off-road driving, night drives, and guided walking safaris that are not permitted within the national reserve itself. The Maasai people, with their distinctive red shukas, beaded jewellery, and deep connection to this land, add a rich and genuine cultural dimension to every visit.
