Lake Nakuru National Park sits in the heart of the Great Rift Valley, surrounding the alkaline Lake Nakuru. Though the lake's flamingo populations fluctuate with water levels, at peak times over a million lesser and greater flamingos create a breathtaking pink shoreline visible from Baboon Cliff high above. The park is one of Kenya's best-protected rhino sanctuaries, home to both the rare black rhino and the southern white rhino — making it one of the most reliable places in Africa to see both species on a single game drive. The park also protects Rothschild's giraffes — one of the most endangered giraffe subspecies — along with lions, leopards, and large herds of waterbuck. The escarpment viewpoints overlooking the lake and the surrounding Rift Valley floor offer some of the most dramatic vistas in Kenya.
